THE INCREDIBLE HULK was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1962. The 1st series of The Hulk came out in May of 1962, with Lee scripting and Kirby doing the artwork and the issues coming out every other month. This series lasted for only 6 issues, the last one being released in March of 1963. Artist Steve Ditko did the artwork for Issue #6 instead of Jack Kirby. For the next few months, The Hulk guest starred in various other Marvel Comics.
In September of 1964, The Hulk then appeared in Issue #59 of a comic entitled TALES TO ASTONISH fighting Giant Man. In Issue #60, TTA was then divided into 2 parts/stories. One story was dedicated to The Hulk, and the 2nd story was dedicated to Ant Man/Giant Man (The SubMariner took over Giant Man's spot in Issue #70). TTA lasted until Issue #101 (March, 1968).
In April of 1968, The Hulk's stories took over the entire TALES TO ASTONISH and the series was retitled THE INCREDIBLE HULK, continuing the TTA series count with Issue #102. This is why you will never find Issue #'s 7-101 of THE INCREDIBLE HULK from the 1960's. This "HULK" series lasted until March of 1999, ending with Issue #474. This included a "-1 Issue", which told a story of Bruce Banner's life before the TIH #1 of 1962.
April, 1999, brought about Issue #1of a new series simply entitled THE HULK. This series lasted only for 11 Issues. With Issue #12, the series was again titled THE INCREDIBLE HULK. This series ended in December, 2007, with Issue #111. With Issue #112, it will be retitled THE INCREDIBLE HERCULES, and will follow the adventures of Marvel Comic's version of Hercules.
In January, 2008, a new series was launched once more, again simply entitled THE HULK. This series was started off with Issue #1. This is the series of The Hulk that is currently on the news stands. One twist is that this "Hulk" that appears in the start of this new series in not Dr. Robert Bruce Banner.
